The Little Food Truck That Could Finds a Permanent Home in Ball Ground

In 2019, owner Daniel Ray won the Atlanta Grilled Cheese Festival. He was proud of the moment, but had no plans to build a business around it. It was a one-and-done win.

Then COVID hit.

When the restaurant where Daniel worked shut down, he was forced to pivot. With no grand plan in place, Cheez’d & Confuzed was born. What started as a simple pop-up under a tent quickly gained traction, driven by indulgent sandwiches, a playful attitude, and an unpretentious point of view.

Daniel soon put a converted 1967 camper on the road. Over the next six years, Cheez’d & Confuzed crisscrossed Atlanta, serving neighborhoods, festivals, and events while quietly building a loyal following. The road was not romantic. Long days, unpredictable weather, mechanical issues, and constant movement were part of the reality. What endured was the food, and the people who kept coming back for it.

Now, Cheez’d & Confuzed has a permanent home.

Located at 2960 Canton Highway in Ball Ground, Georgia, next to Dominick’s Mission, the brand has planted roots with an updated menu while staying true to its road-tested spirit. The new location offers walk-up window service for takeout, along with a small number of picnic tables for casual, open-air dining. Seventies music sets the tone, keeping the atmosphere loose and familiar.

“What’s surprised me most is the loyalty,” said Daniel. “People have driven hours just to find us, and on opening day one of our regulars was already waiting in the parking lot by 9 a.m. That kind of love is humbling. Having a permanent home makes it easier for the people who’ve supported us from the beginning, and that means everything.”

As the team awaits the arrival of a second truck, hours will remain flexible. Once operational, Cheez’d & Confuzed plans to run lunch service five to six days a week from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with breakfast and dinner planned as staffing grows. Online ordering is coming soon. The second truck will remain mobile, continuing to serve events and pop-ups across Atlanta. Cheez’d & Confuzed is proud of where it’s been and excited about what comes next.
